RVM Systems launches the RVM A1: full-size performance in its most compact reverse vending machine yet
With a footprint of just 0.41 m², the new RVM A1 brings the compaction quality and bin volume of a full-size machine to convenience stores and small-format shops — where every square metre counts
STOCKHOLM, Sweden – 3rd November 2026 – RVM Systems, the Swedish manufacturer of reverse vending machines and a supplier to deposit return system (DRS) markets since 1994, today announces the launch of the RVM A1, the most compact reverse vending machine in its range. Designed for convenience stores and small-store environments where space is at a premium, the RVM A1 combines an ultra-compact footprint with market-leading storage capacity and full-size compaction quality.

The RVM A1 is designed to fit seamlessly into the beverage aisle of small-format stores.
Big-machine performance, small-store footprint
As deposit return systems expand across Europe and beyond, a growing share of return points will be located in convenience stores, petrol station shops and urban small-format outlets. For these retailers, floor space is their most valuable asset, and until now, a compact machine typically meant lower capacity, more frequent emptying and weaker compaction.
Occupying approximately 0.41 m², the RVM A1 is the smallest machine in the RVM Systems range, yet it offers a compaction ratio equal to that of full-size reverse vending machines and a storage capacity of up to 240 half-litre PET bottles or 640 33 cl cans. Fewer bin changes mean less staff time spent on returns and more time serving customers.
A compelling alternative to manual collection
For many small shop owners, the alternative to a reverse vending machine is manual collection over the counter: staff checking each container by hand, refunding the deposit and storing bulky, uncompacted empties in the back room. This ties up staff at the till, takes up valuable storage space, raises hygiene concerns and exposes retailers to errors and fraud, since containers cannot be reliably verified by eye.
The RVM A1 has been designed to remove these obstacles. Its compact footprint makes automated returns viable even in stores that assumed they had no room for a machine, while automatic recognition ensures that every deposit refunded is for a genuine, eligible container. Because containers are compacted on the spot, the same volume of returns takes up a fraction of the space and is ready for collection with minimal handling. For small-format retailers, the RVM A1 is the ideal way to move beyond manual collection: more efficient, more hygienic and more secure.
Mixed PET and cans, in compliance with market requirements
The RVM A1 accepts and compacts both PET bottles of up to 3 L and cans of up to 1 L, handling mixed deposits in compliance with market requirements at a rate of 15+ containers per minute.
At its core is RVM Systems’ innovative, proprietary technology. Each container is identified through barcode and QR code reading and verified by shape and weight recognition and metal detection, and the machine is already prepared for future deposit logo detection. A 12.3″ touchscreen and a 120 cm infeed height provide an intuitive and accessible user experience, in compliance with DDA requirements.
The RVM A1 has also been built to keep operating costs low. Its modular design makes maintenance quick and simple, keeping service costs to a minimum, while RVM Online, RVM Systems’ proactive web-based monitoring and analysis solution, enables remote diagnostics, backups and software updates. The machine is also soon to be certified by Exchange for Change, the UK’s DRS administrator.
The machine features a clean Scandinavian design with easily customisable branding and can be equipped with a range of options including an NFC reader, loyalty QR code reader, donation function, API connectivity, the myRVM app and the RVM Assist button with call-to-assist or audio guidance.
“Many small convenience stores and retailers with little space have assumed that manual collection over the counter is their only realistic option, simply because they lack the floor space for a reverse vending machine. The RVM A1 changes that. It brings automated, verified and secure returns and full-size compaction quality to places where space has always been the deciding factor, freeing staff from handling empties by hand and keeping back rooms clear. The A1 complements our full-size range: where volumes and space allow, the X2 remains the benchmark, and where every square centimetre counts, the A1 now gives retailers a much better choice than manual collection.”
